Classes
At The Liberties Weavers™ we offer a range of weaving classes designed to preserve and revive the rich textile heritage of The Liberties while making traditional craft accessible to all.
Mags Maxwell expertly tutors all of our Morning classes.
The Liberties Weavers™ classes run as a Community Partner with City of Education and Training Board, South West Inner City, Adult Education Service and Dublin City Council.
Beginner Weaving Classes
Our introductory classes focus on the basics of weaving, including how to set up a loom, understand patterns, and create simple woven pieces. Participants will learn traditional techniques using natural fibers like wool and linen, connecting them to the area’s historic textile industry.
Intermediate and Advanced Classes
For those with basic weaving experience, our intermediate and advanced classes explore more complex techniques, pattern reading, and the use of color and texture. Students will work on individual projects, developing their skills and creativity.
WeaveTime Workshops
These short, hands-on sessions introduce participants to the fundamentals of weaving and the history of The Liberties’ textile industry. Each participant weaves a small piece, such as a bookmark, to take home.
Community Engagement & Special Events
Our program includes public demonstrations, talks by textile historians, and collaborations with local artisans. We also organize field trips, such as visits to sustainable wool farms, to deepen participants’ understanding of natural fibers and ethical textile production.
Through our classes, we foster a vibrant community of weavers, ensuring that this traditional craft remains a living part of The Liberties’ cultural identity.
"A perfect mix of learning a new craft, history and company"
What our students are saying
“A great initiative. Also with all of the talk of mindfulness these days, there is no better way than to be creative, and to produce something to be proud of at the end is so rewarding. It was most enjoyable, giving a great insight into the history of the Liberties, not just through weaving but the whole social history which I loved. Very clear instructions given, with no pressure for speed or perfection. Very encouraging and positive!”
I had so much fun during this session, conversing with the instructors and the other participants as well. I see how this activity can be relaxing, calming, and a part of peoples' lives"
