A project honouring a thousand years of textile and weaving heritage in
The Liberties Dublin and breathing life into weaving in its historic centre.
The Liberties Weavers aim to breathe new life into the 1000 years of history, weaving and textile production in the Liberties, Dublin.
We aim to do this by organising weaving classes, community based workshops (online and face-to-face), exhibitions and historical lectures for local residents and visitors to our area.
part of
The Liberties Festival
27th July 2024
The Liberties Weavers created a guided walk around the area to discover some places, people and textiles that have shaped Ireland's textile history.
Directed by Audrey Lewis and produced by Fiona Murphy as part of a Champlain College Dublin documentary filmmaking class, led by Barrie Dowdall.
"Thank you for a wonderful class on Tuesday…delighted with my bookmark …the result of your guidance and patience !!…a great nite…very interesting information on local weaving/craft history… “
A great initiative. Also with all of the talk of mindfulness these days, there is no better way than to be creative, and to produce something to be proud of at the end is so rewarding. It was most enjoyable, giving a great insight into the history of the Liberties, not just through weaving but the whole social history which I loved. Very clear instructions given, with no pressure for speed or perfection. Very encouraging and positive!
